A Birthday Celebration
A Birthday Celebration

Council celebrated Nelson Mandela Day on Wednesday 18 July with a birthday party held at Council’s head office in Pretoria.
As any proper birthday party should, this one featured a jumping castle, snacks, dancing and singing. All the proceedings were broadcasted live by Thobela FM, which boasts a listenership of over 5 million people.
Party-goers were pleasantly surprised when an enormous birthday cake sponsored by Soshanguve Pick n Pay, Thobela FM and Tshwane Gospel Choir, was delivered, ensuring more than enough cake for everyone.
Filadelfia and Sibonile Schools for visually impaired learners, Pretoria School for cerebral palsied, physically and learning disabled learners, and learners from Central Islamic School attended the festivities. They delighted us with singing, dancing, birthday messages for Madiba and the reading of essays.
The Right to Read campaign was highlighted with Council’s Dr. Obert Maguvhe informing the public about the challenges faced by persons not being able to pick up a book to read it, and the campaign to make knowledge and information through reading accessible to all.
