Hooray for Dressing for Laughs on Casual Day!
As one of the beneficiaries of Casual Day, Council made a total of R 613 874.20 out of Council’s share of the revenues from ticket sales and Casual Day merchandise during the 2010 campaign.
Casual Day is an annual fundraising initiative managed by the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA). The whole country unites to create awareness of disability and to raise funds for disability organisations. People are encouraged to join the fun by buying a Casual Day sticker, dressing up (or down) on the day and to wear their Casual Day stickers in support of persons with disabilities. Last year’s theme was “Dressing for Laughs”.
Council recently received a visit from Able, the Casual Day mascot and Mr. Johan Viljoen, National Director of the NCPPDSA, who handed over the money to Mr. Jace Nair, Council’s National Executive Director.
This money will go a long way towards the empowerment of blind and partially sighted South Africans. We would like to raise even more money this year to achieve objectives like making assistive devices more affordable for visually impaired persons and improving the quality of education for visually impaired children.
Council would again like to invite its member organisations and loyal supporters to participate in the Casual Day project this year. If we join forces, we can increase the portion of revenue that the blindness sector receives, and in doing so also improve our capacity to deliver services to all our visually impaired beneficiaries.
Members of the public or businesses who would like to buy stickers, t-shirt or caps in support of persons with disabilities can order it directly from Council.
Member organisations who would like to benefit from this initiative can contact our Public Relations and Fundraising Division by e-mail or fax: 012 346 4699 for information.
