A person with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH) has small eye nerves (optic nerves) from the eye to the brain. Some people with ONH also have an abnormal brain and a poorly functioning pituitary gland. The attached brochure explains the problems that can occur in children with ONH.

Your child may have none, any, or all of these problems in a mild or more serious form. Depending on the person's problem sometimes the disease is called Optic nerve Hypoplasia (ONH), septo-optic dysplasia, or De Morsier's syndrome.

OPTIC NERVE HYPOPLASIA / SEPTO OPTIC DYSPLASIA BLINDNESS AWARENE

Thank you for putting this information in here !!
I am also concerned to ALL rural areas who are taking in kids with this condition. As they must see an endocrinist and the local rural township clinic will NOT solve there problem with essential hormones needed in the body.
Please could the SANCB do some internal research to ALL blind societies where kids are involved to see how many kids with this condition are out there. I would appreciate this info, to advise and guide the parents or teachers to this condition to help the child itself.
thank you
