Rearabetswe self-help group’s burnt to the ground

On 13 April one of our self-help groups, Rearabetswe Blind Association, was burnt to the ground during the protest action against poor municipal service delivery in Ficksburg.

The death of Andries Tatane, at the hands of the Police, during this protest has been reported on widely, but it is a lesser known fact that when the municipal building and the Home Affairs offices were burnt down during the protest, the adjacent Community Centre were also burnt down. Rearabetswe was housed in the Community Centre and these blind people have lost all their equipment and most of their stock with which they earn a living.
