Vuyolwethu Ndzewu was eight-years-old when an accident left him permanently blind in one eye. Life would never be the same for this boy from a poor rural community in the Eastern Cape.

He was taunted at school by his teachers and peers, and side-lined from social activities. His problems continued after matric. He managed to find a job as a forklift driver in Cape Town in 2017 – but despite his good performance, he lost the job due to his disability.

When Vuyolwethu lost that job, he lost all hope of making it in this world. But thankfully, things are looking up.

The SANCB-Western Cape heard about Vuyolwethu and has stepped in to help him obtain a disability grant and counselling from the Department of Social Services. He’s also been placed in a learnership programme funded by Investec and facilitated by Afrika Tikkun.

We trust that through this intervention, Vuyolwethu will regain his confidence and pursue his dreams. Thank you to our donors for giving SANCB the means to intervene and restore hope to people living with visual impairments.
