Lafarge Community Trust has been supporting the SA National Council for the Blind consistently in recent years. This is much appreciated in the prevailing uncertain economic times, which has dealt the NPO sector with quite a few hard knocks.

Since 2011, the Trust has invested over R800 000.00 in support of various Council initiatives, such as the following:

• The sponsorship of 250 white canes and 500 sets of slates and styluses;
• The very first Matric Winter School for visually impaired learners in 2011 and 2012;
• Braille training for visually impaired learners;
Maths Braille training for educators;
• Participation in Council’s annual White Cane Safety Day Fun Walk to create awareness on visual impairments and to mobilize resources; and
• Facilitating access to learnership opportunities for people with visual impairment.

These valuable contributions to Council’s work will go a long way to bettering the lives of blind and partially sighted South Africans. We look forward to nurturing and developing the valuable relationship that we have with Lafarge Community Trust.
