I’m sure you know there are two things a child can’t resist – music and fluffy toys! That’s especially true of visually impaired children who rely on their hearing and touch much more than sighted children.

That is exactly why Fizza was over the moon when we gave her a Perkins Panda Early Literacy Kit as an early Christmas present, because inside was a giant stuffed panda – with space for a tape player in his backpack! The kit also contains three early childhood development packs with braille and tactile books and audio stories.

It’s a wonderful early learning tool that helps lay the foundation for a lifetime of education. Fizza – who was born blind and has no hope of regaining her sight – already reads one braille book a day and wants to become a lawyer one day.

With your help we can give this kit and many other wonderful aids to more children. Like the specially designed educational toys our Resource Centre stocks for children who can’t see: braille and tactile books, puzzles, talking globes, interactive toys and talking soft toys.

Or you might want to send your gift towards a braille workshop at our Optima College or at one of our member organisations. That’s where we met Fizza’s mother, who was learning about braille so she could play a bigger role in her daughter’s life.
