BICENTENARY OF LOUIS BRAILLE'S BIRTH : INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 4TH TO 8TH JANUARY 2009

The organizing committee for the bicentenary of Louis Braille's birth has much pleasure in attaching the programme of the international conference organized  from 4th to 8th January 2009 by Valentin Haüy Association and the National Institute for the Young Blind.  Along with the programme, you will find a registration form, as well as a list of various hotels nearby the Unesco headquarter, in Paris, where the conference will take place.

Helen Keller Association 50th Anniversary celebration takes place at the hostel in Pinelands, Cape Town on 19 March 2008.

Two formidable female speakers will be in action on the day. Helen Ziller, Mayor of Cape Town and leader of the official opposition, will be the keynote speaker, followed by Jill Wagner, our CEO.


Congress on Inclusion, hosted by SAALED [The Southern African Association of Learning and Educational Difficulties], takes place from 9-12 July 2008 at the Dimension Data Campus in Johannesburg, with expert national and international speakers.

In addition, Dr Mel Levine from New Yourk [A Mind at a Time] will present two full days: 12 July at Wits Great Hall in Jhb and 14 July at the Business Centre, Old Mutual Building in Cape Town.

Mobile Eye Care Division screening clinics

People who experience eye problems, vision difficulties, eye pain or infections and inflammation can arrive at the following clinics from 8am.

People with blindness-causing conditions will be seen by an eye specialist and a sight-restoring operation may be performed. Spectacles may also be dispensed.
